Contractors recently began construction of a new 650’ bulkhead adjacent to the Seaboard Marine terminal at PortMiami. Construction should be fully completed in February, 2015.

Reduced Res 2010 Berthing Improvements_2The project, similar to the building of a 760’ bulkhead on the eastern edge of the Seaboard parcel in 2010, is one of many infrastructure improvements that Seaboard Marine and PortMiami are jointly undertaking as part of a long-term effort to improve the capacity and efficiency of the 90 acre Seaboard Marine terminal. Projects recently completed include a new Seaboard Marine only nine-lane gate complex and installation of new permanent refrigeration plugs. Upcoming improvement projects slated to start later this year include rehabilitating nearly ten acres of marshalling land with new drainage and paving.

Bruce Brecheisen, Seaboard Executive VP, said, “Combined with many other recent improvements, the new bulkhead extension will not only significantly increase berthing capacity for Seaboard Marine vessels, it will also improve our productivity by allowing for better cargo alignment and organization within the western portion of our terminal. The result will be improved efficiencies and quicker turnaround for cargo containers and the truckers who deliver them. We are excited that construction of this new berth has started and are appreciative of PortMiami’s funding and support of the project.”
