Seaboard Other Divisions

Seaboard also has investments in a variety of "Other" businesses from food-related products to electric power generation. The three largest companies in the Other Divisions segment are: Tabacal Agroindustria, Transcontinental Capital, and Mount Dora Farms.

Tabacal Agroindustria

Tabacal Agroindustria produces and processes sugar cane in Argentina. The sugar and alcohol produced by Tabacal are primarily sold domestically, however some product is exported to the United States, other South American countries, and Europe.

Tabacal's sugar processing plant is one of the largest in Argentina. It has the capacity to produce of over 230,000 metric tons of sugar and approximately 13 million gallons of alcohol per year. The mill is located on a large tract of land in the Salta Province of Argentina, on which approximately 60,000 acres are planted with sugar cane which supplies the mill with the majority of its raw material.

Transcontinental Capital Corporation, Ltd.

Transcontinental Capital Corporation owns two electric power generating facilities in the Dominican Republic consisting of a system of diesel engines mounted on floating barges with a combined rated capacity of approximately 112 megawatts.

The first barge was put into service in 1990, the Estrella del Norte, has a rated capacity of 40 megawatts, and was the first independent power producer in the Dominican Republic at the time. The second barge, the Estrella del Mar, has a rated capacity of 72 megawatts, and began producing electricity in 2000. Both plants are rated highly for their reliability and availability among domestic power plants.

As an independent power producer, Transcontinental Capital Corporation generates and sells electricity into the local power grid, but does not transmit or distribute electricity to customers. Electricity is sold under contract to distribution companies, certain larger commercial users, as well as on the spot market. The spot market is accessed primarily by three wholly-owned or partially government-owned distribution companies, and limited other entities.

Mount Dora Farms

Mount Dora Farms processes jalapeño peppers at its plant located in Comayagua, Honduras. The peppers are sourced from contract growers in Honduras and then processed at the plant to be packaged and transported to the United States. The facility has the capacity to process fifteen million pounds of peppers annually. The peppers are often shipped on vessels from our Marine Division in order to reduce the cost of transporting the peppers. Much of the product sold in the United States is used to produce "jalapeño poppers", a popular snack sold in restaurants and grocery stores.
